At the end of September Jude Lynch, Serials Specialist, will retire with more than 25 years of service at the Briscoe Library. Starting as a Library Assistant I in 1985, Jude has spent most of her time working with journals. She was primarily responsible for recording receipt of print issues and moved seamlessly to working with electronic journals once they became prolific in the late 1990s.
In her present position as Serials Specialist, Jude has undoubtedly had a hand in almost all of the library’s records pertaining to journals, in print or electronic format. In recent years, she has worked to assure that catalog records were correct, contacted publishers for resolutions of problems related to accessing electronic journals, and worked diligently to keep our journal subscriptions working for faculty and students.
Jude was instrumental in implementing and populating data in the library’s link resolver, which automates the process of accessing electronic journals through OpenURL linking. The link resolver allows our library users quick access to e-journal articles from a variety of databases ranging from Ovid, PubMed, Web of Science, and CINAHL, just to name a few.
For most of her career, Jude has worked behind the scenes. However, her efforts and dedication were recognized on a grand scale when she was awarded a Presidential Employee Excellence in Service Award in 2009.
In her retirement, Jude will enjoy reading, watching movies, and spending more time with friends, her husband, and her dog. All of Jude’s colleagues in the library will certainly miss her and the dedication to the Health Science Center that she has practiced during her 25 years of service.
