The Libraries offer a variety of instruction opportunities on a regular schedule and by special request.

Library classes are open to all UT Health Science Center affiliates. See complete descriptions of regularly-scheduled classes below. In addition, librarians can work with you directly to tailor, or create, instruction to meet student, faculty, or staff needs.  Contact us for more information or to schedule.

Creating and Presenting a Professional Poster Session

  • An introductory one-hour class designed to enhance poster creation and presentation skills
  • Covers the creation of a rolled poster, presentation skills, and best practices for poster sessions at professional conferences and meetings

Introduction to EndNote

  • Hands-on, computer-based workshop
  • Covers the basics of using EndNote software to manage references and produce bibliographies
    • Importing references from databases
    • Organizing and managing an EndNote library
    • Using Cite While You Write to format a bibliography

  • Hands-on, computer-based workshop
  • Introduces the basics of using RefWorks to
    • Manage references
    • Import references from databases such as PubMed or CINAHL
    • Organize and manage a RefWorks database
    • Produce bibliographies

RefWorks is a web-based product that is available to all UT Health Science Center affiliates.

  • Designed with Administrative Assistants and other staff in mind
  • Geared toward those who may retrieve information for others, but need a refresher on library use
  • The class includes
    • A tour of the Library
    • An overview of services
    • A hands-on instruction in locating items, both electronically and in-print

Library Basics is offered once a semester but special sessions can be scheduled by request.

Google Scholar for Scientific and Clinical Literature Searches

  • This class introduces standard and advanced search features in Google Scholar
  • Learn how to
    • Set Google Scholar preferences to include full-text links from the Libraries
    • Export citations from Google Scholar to RefWorks or EndNote
    • Set up and integrate the Library’s LibX Toolbar with Google Scholar on your own computer

  • These sessions generally include
    • An overview of services
    • An introduction to the Library Catalog
    • An introduction to relevant database
  • Orientation sessions are usually 50 minutes or less and can be tailored for your group
