Our librarians are available to conduct mediated, for-fee searches of a variety of databases, including some that are not available for self-searching. Charges for mediated search services vary depending on user affiliation, preparation and search time, and database vendor charges.
Search Request Form
Who can place a mediated search request?
Online searches can be requested by Health Science Center-affiliated faculty and staff members, area health professionals, law firms, businesses, and other non-health professionals. You will be contacted by a librarian to discuss your request if clarification is needed. Anyone can use the online form to request a search. You may also call the Library’s On-Call Librarian Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
How long does it take?
Maximum turn-around time is usually 24 to 48 hours. Except for searches that are requested in situations of clinical emergency for patient care, mediated searches are not completed on the weekends or holidays. Non-emergency searches received on a weekend or holidays will be referred to a librarian on the next business day.
How much does it cost?
Search fees vary depending on the affiliation of the requestor, the amount of preparation and search time, and the databases searched. If you plan to pick up the search results at the Library’s Circulation Desk, you can pay by cash, check, or credit card. Health Science Center-affiliated personnel also have the option of charging a search to a Health Science Center project ID. If you request that the search results be emailed, faxed, or mailed, you must pre-pay the search by credit card or Health Science Center project ID.
Health Science Center-affiliated personnel: $15 per half hour, with a half hour minimum charge. Additional search time is charged at the rate of $7.50 per 15 minutes.
All others: $25 per half hour, with a half hour minimum charge. Additional search time is charged at the rate of $12.50 per 15 minutes.
There is an additional surcharge of $2.00 for searches that are mailed or faxed.
Searches of specialized databases to which the Library does not directly subscribe will be billed the preparation and search fee as noted above plus the vendor fee, which varies by database.
