Kathy Carter has been appointed as the Assistant Library Director for the Mario E. Ramirez, M.D., Library at the Regional Academic Health Center (RAHC) in Harlingen. Kathy was most recently the Ramirez Library Librarian. Kathy received her bachelor of arts and master of library and information science at the University of Texas at Austin and has held increasingly responsible positions as a librarian at UT Brownsville and the RAHC. She recently completed the Biomedical Informatics Course at the Marine Biological Laboratory, Woods Hole, and has completed an intensive course on Evidence Based Medicine and the Medical Librarian. Kathy has been active in information resource instruction for students and house staff at the RAHC and in outreach to the Lower Rio Grande Valley community.

Yolanda Serna has been promoted to Senior Library Assistant. Yolanda joined the Ramirez Library staff in 2002 after 15 years with the San Benito Consolidated School District. In her time at the Ramirez Library, Yolanda has been involved with public services, collection development, managing historical collections, and community outreach. Yolanda also serves as a library liaison to RAHC clinical faculty, assisting with registration and access to library resources and services. She will assume additional responsibility for overseeing night and weekend operation of the Ramirez Library.
Liz Reyes has been appointed as Associate Library Assistant. Liz joined the Ramirez Library in August 2013 as a part-time staff member. Liz has a bachelor of science in health administration and over 10 years of medical office experience. In her new role, Liz will be assume responsibility for the Ramirez Library’s historical collection and will participate in outreach events and projects.
