The Texas Health Literacy conference, held annually in San Antonio, has grown to be the largest one of its kind in the state. This year, October 2nd marked the 11th conference. It is attended by healthcare administrators, clinicians, social workers, pharmacists, health educators, nurses, and community members interested in health literacy.

Health Literacy is commonly defined as the ability to obtain, process, and understand basic health information and services to make appropriate health decisions. According to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, only 12% of U.S. adults are considered to be proficient in health literacy.

Briscoe staff librarians Emme Lopez (pictured) and Peg Seger presented posters on Superfoods: The Health Behind the Headlines and Expanding the Limits of Outreach Education and Collaboration. An exhibit table with consumer health information resources from the National Library of Medicine was staffed by Patrick Lemelle, Library Outreach Assistant.
