The UT Health Science Center Libraries welcome Karen Barton as the new Liaison to the School of Health Professions (SHP) and Community Engagement Librarian. Karen comes to the UTHSCSA Briscoe Library from the San Antonio Public Library where she has been involved with community outreach programming as a Teen Services Librarian . Karen graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2013 with an M.S. in Library and Information Science and a certificate in Community Informatics. Karen also holds a B.A. in Communication and Media Production.

Karen will work with faculty in the SHP to plan and develop curriculum-integrated content and serve as a single point of contact for library services. Karen will also work on campus and community engagement initiatives to promote library resources and services in support of education, research, and community health.

Karen has an impressive background with a wide variety of program experience. Selected as a Community Ambassador at the Urbana Free Library, she collaborated with librarians and community partners to provide digital media and other programming for both youth and adults. At her church, she currently serves as the webmaster. We look forward to having Karen as a member of our Library team and introducing her to our wider campus and community.
