Liaison Librarians Provide Services to Support Faculty and Student Success

The Briscoe Library is launching a new initiative, assigning liaison librarians to work with students, faculty and researchers in each school. As the Library has migrated to a non-print environment, the majority of in-person library users are students looking for study space. The library’s website provides an access point for books, journal articles, or database searches. Changes in library use in the last five years are measured in the lower number of people entering the library, and the decreasing number of reference questions posed to librarians. In the same period, there has been an up-take in the requests for database instruction integrated into class work, one-on-one research assistance, and consultations on specific types of literature searching such as systematic reviews.

The liaison librarians will be the primary point of contact for students, faculty and researchers. They will provide:

  • Assistance with literature search strategies and bibliographic management
  • Curriculum-integrated classes on evidence-based practice and information literacy
  • Expert information search and consultation services for researchers and doctoral students
  • Advocacy on public access policies of federal agencies
  • Collaboration on systematic reviews and meta-analyses

We are currently in the process of developing a liaison librarian position description for the School of Dentistry and the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. Currently, the liaison librarians are:
