SHP Liaison Receives Award to Attend International Health Literacy Conference

 

 

Karen Barton, Liaison to the School of Health Professions and Community Engagement Librarian, received a Professional Development Award from the South Central Region of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine to attend the joint meeting of ICCH & HARC (the International Conference on Communication in Healthcare & Health Literacy Annual Research Conference). The joint meeting took place in Baltimore, MD from October 8-11 , 2017. Karen attended the pre-course “Teaching Health Literacy, Cultural Humility and Health Equity – Innovation in Education and Practice,” which she hopes will inform her work with the San Antonio Health Literacy Initiative as well as her own outreach initiatives. She was also successful in getting an abstract approved to lead a Youth Health Literacy interest group, of which there were 20 other participants.
