Surprise Visit to the Library

Library therapy dog June made a surprise visit to the library on Thursday 12/12. Seen here with her pet-parent librarian Dana Whitmire, June is a certified therapy dog with the PAWS organization and will be making regular visits to the UT Health campus in the coming year.

Winter Break Hours

Briscoe Library is accessible 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for all UT Health San Antonio students, faculty, and staff. Even if the doors are closed and locked, you still have access to the facilities by using your UT Health ID card to swipe into the building. During Winter Break, our public hours are as follows:

This is also a reminder that due to the planned campus-wide power outage, Briscoe Library will be completely closed beginning Friday, December 20th at 5pm through Monday, December 23rd at 6am. Submit Your Photo for the Image of Research

Briscoe Library’s 3rd Annual Image of Research Photography Competition is now open! Submit your photo through March 13th, 2020 for a chance to win up to $600. Stop by Briscoe Library to view the winners from the 2018 and 2019 competitions!

Here’s An Idea…

Use your winter break to write an essay for the Danny Jones Essay Contest! Deadline is January 31st, 2020. Prize money will include $250 for 1st, $150 for second, and $100 for 3rd place.

Briscoe Library Announces 3rd Annual Image of Research Photography Competition

Briscoe Library is pleased to announce its 3rd Annual Image of Research Photography Competition! This competition is an opportunity for UT Health San Antonio students, faculty, and staff from all five schools to capture, share, and present the essence of their research in a single visual image. The competition and its accompanying exhibition showcase the UT Health San Antonio community’s creative visual conceptualization of their research.

This is the first year that faculty and staff are invited to participate, and we are excited to see your contributions. Submissions will be accepted from December 1st, 2019 through March 13th, 2020. The awards are listed as follows:
1st Place: $400
2nd Place: $300
3rd Place: $200
IPE Award: $600
Faculty/Staff Award: $400

Library Thanksgiving Holiday Hours

As a reminder, Briscoe Library is open 24/7/365 for current faculty, students, and staff of UT Health San Antonio with a valid UT ID for card swipe entry.

During the Thanksgiving Holiday, library doors will be open for more limited hours as follows:

Wednesday, November 27: 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Thursday, November 28: Thanksgiving Day – Doors closed
Friday, November 29: University Holiday – Doors closed
Saturday, November 30: Resume normal hours – 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Sunday, November 31: Resume normal hours – 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Danny Jones History of the Health Sciences Essay Award

The Friends of the P.I. Nixon Medical Historical Library welcome submissions for the 2020 essay competition in memory of Danny Jones, M.L.S., who served as Head of Special Collections at the UT Health San Antonio Library and who was also a Past President of the Friends of the P.I. Nixon Medical Historical Library. The essay can be on any topic related to the history of the health sciences, including medicine, dentistry, nursing, public health, or any other health science subject or profession.

The contest is open to current students in any of the schools at UT Health San Antonio, as well as affiliated interns, residents, and fellows. Unpublished essays in broad areas related to the history of the health sciences are eligible for submission. Previous essays not selected are also eligible for re-submission.

Three winners will be chosen by a panel of judges, awarding $250, $150, and $100 for the first 3 places. The awards will be presented during Student Fiesta in April of 2020.
