LogIntoILLiadThese services are available to UT Health Science Center at San Antonio affiliated users and to health professionals in the South Texas region who are registered with the UTHSC Libraries. They are not available to guests from the community, including individuals, corporations, law firms or organizations. These groups may take advantage of services provided by their local public library branch.

Articles from print journals in the UT Health Science Center Libraries collections are scanned and held for pickup or delivered via email or by U.S. Postal Service. Books can be delivered to a campus address or held for pickup. This service is limited to UT Health Science Center affiliates and may not be used for libraries, corporations, law firms or organizations. Copy and delivery limitations may apply due to copyright and publisher license restrictions. Requesters will be contacted if a request cannot be completed due to these restrictions.

About Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

LogintoILLiadThis service provides delivery of articles or books that are not in our collection by requesting item(s) from another library. Copy and delivery limitations may apply due to publisher license restrictions. Requesters will be contacted if request cannot be completed due to these restrictions.

What type of materials are available through ILL?

  • Copies of articles from journals and book chapters (as permitted by copyright laws)
  • Circulating copies of books, dissertations, audiovisuals, and other materials
  • Items that are at the bindery or are identified as missing from our collection

This service is not applicable for items that are currently checked out or have been placed On Hold by other library users.

Who can use ILL services?

  • UT Health Science Center Affiliates (students, staff, faculty, residents, and post-docs) and University Health System staff
  • Retired UT Health Science Center Faculty and Staff—must be registered with the Libraries
  • UT Health Science Center Alumni who are registered as Health Professionals currently licensed to practice in the region served by the Libraries
  • Licensed Area Health Professionals registered with the Libraries, who request materials for personal or academic research.

ILL services are not available to:

  • Alumni of the UT Health Science Center unless they are registered with the libraries as Health Professionals licensed to practice in the local region.
  • Health professionals making requests on behalf of corporations, including law firms, or organizations.
  • Community users or Courtesy Borrowers

These groups should contact their affiliated academic, hospital or public library in order to obtain books and articles.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL):  Request items that we do not have in our collection and we will order from another library.

Document Delivery:  Request a copy of item(s) that we do own or have access to and we will make a copy and deliver them to you.

LoansomeDoc: Document delivery for PubMed users who have an agreement with the UTHSC Libraries.  Loansome Doc registration with the Briscoe Library is available online.

First time users must create an ILLiad account. Contact the ILL department at 210-567-2460 or ariel-ill@uthscsa.edu with questions or comments.

(1)   ILL delivery surcharges: $2.00 per item for FAX requests and $12.00 per item for Federal Express delivery.

(3)   Not available to health professionals acting on behalf of corporations, law firms or organizations.

Notifications

Notices are sent via email when items have been received and are available to be picked up, delivered online, or mailed through U.S. Postal Service. Delivery times are estimates and are not guaranteed. Rush requests received after 2:00 pm will be processed on the next business day (except for clinical emergencies).

Acceptable Methods of Payment

Cash, Check (Government issued ID required), UT Health Science Center Project ID (PID), or Credit Card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express).

Suggest a Purchase

Do you know of a book or journal you think would benefit our collection in the long run? Use the Purchase Suggestion form to request the purchase of a book, journal, or other item for our collection. We make every effort to fill purchase requests, but cannot guarantee that funding will be available.

If you don’t want to wait for Interlibrary Loan, you may prefer to visit another library in the area. Most are open to the public, and many allow UTHSC borrowers to check books out under the TexShare program
