Briscoe Library Removing Print Journals
In September, approximately 97,000 print journal volumes will be removed from the Briscoe Library 4th floor. This project is part of an overall effort to transition to a print-free environment, as almost all of the library’s current journals are now available online and searchable through the library’s catalog or through BrowZine. Older journal articles that are not online can be ordered at no charge through the Document Delivery service. Delivery time is estimated at under 48 hours.
Removing these journals opens up the 4th floor as the library evolves from a storage space for print materials into a place for study, instruction, and collaboration. The volumes that are being removed are already part of the collection in the Joint Library Facility, a storage unit located in Bryan, TX that is a collaboration between the University of Texas System and Texas A&M University. The library has contracted with a commercial company to remove and transport the volumes to a recycling plant.
