Library Gallery Opening April 22, 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.

Briscoe Library takes great pride in being the site for the 2nd gallery opening for an exhibit of environmentally themed screen prints produced by local area high school students taking part in the Air Quality Academy. The academy is sponsored by UT Health San Antonio, The AETNA Foundation, La Printeria, Westside Development Corporation, ImpactSA, and the Alamo Colleges District.

Through the program, students work on their creative designs in collaboration with professionals in the fields of health science,  advocacy and art. Outcomes of the program for students include:

  • Deeper understanding of the significance of environmental health
  • Acquisition of skills that have real labor-value and serve as a means of creative expression
  • Increased sense of leadership and advocacy
  • Enhanced presentation and speaking skills
  • Greater awareness of cross-sector partnerships and their potential to create opportunities

The exhibit will be on display for the remainder of April, extending into the first part of May.

From the Archives: Celebrating 50 Years of Nursing

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the UT Health School of Nursing and celebrations are in full swing! Through a unique collaboration with the School of Nursing, the Library is assisting in bringing the rich history of the nursing school to life. This collaboration started a little over a year ago and has proven to be a very fruitful endeavor. Librarians, library staff and nursing school historians have worked together to organize, identify, and digitize hundreds of photographs in preparation for the 50th anniversary.  Many images were used to produce multiple exhibits and slideshows throughout the school during the Open House and Visionary Leader Awards Luncheon on March 2. The library will continue to develop the nursing school historical collection of history books, class photos, and oral histories, which will soon be available in the library’s Digital Archive.
