NLM Exhibition on AIDS on Display in Information Commons

Surviving and ThrivingThe Briscoe Library is hosting a traveling exhibition from the National Library of Medicine, called Surviving & Thriving: AIDS, Politics, and Culture. The exhibit explores the history of the disease, beginning with it’s appearance in the United States in the early 1980s. Individual panels describe the reactions to the disease, the struggle of scientists and public health officials to understand the disease and determine how AIDS spread, advocacy and activism on behalf of those who were stricken, how the United States government finally reacted to the epidemic, and the challenges still posed by AIDS today.

The exhibition will be on display in the 3rd floor Information Commons until December 6, 2015. In conjunction with this exhibition, and in honor of AIDS Awareness Week, the library will host a presentation by Gregory Anstead, M.D., Ph.D. entitled, Suffering and Progress: A History of the HIV Epidemic in the United States on December 3, 2015 at 12 Noon in the Howe Conference Room on the 5th floor of the Briscoe Library.
